Alliance Insurance is a leading broker of insurance services in Anguilla. A growing agency, most of their processes were handled in-office, in person. The company’s website had been in need of an update for some time, and was no longer operational.

The Challenge

A few months before the pandemic started, they signed on to provide Anguilla's largest employer - the Government of Anguilla - and the island’s thousands of civil servants with health coverage.

Anguilla’s lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic meant that they were unable to service their clients. Claims could not be processed, new accounts could not be opened, and premiums couldn’t be paid.

Even once the island reopened, Alliance needed a means of reducing foot traffic to the office while continuing their business.

Our Approach

There were a number of priorities that needed to be addressed, including generating insurance quotes, being able to submit insurance claims, as well as paying online.

To work out what was most crucial, we went through a workshop that included a card sorting exercise that allowed the Alliance team to rank the most important features that were needed. From this we determined that the ability to generate health insurance quotes and submitting insurance claims online were the main priorities. Secondary goals were allowing for payments of monthly premiums online, as well as educating Alliance's clients about insurance.

The quote generation module takes users through a simple multi step process where basic information is entered to determine the resulting monthly premium generated based on a number of criteria. The final quote is then emailed as a PDF.

With such a large site, navigation was critical. We grouped the site's content under broader categories of Insurance, Customer Care and Resources based on anticipated user needs. Additionally, we created simple paths to getting to critical pages, such as quote generation, and claims submission.

Users are able to access and download claims forms, which they can complete and upload to their claims process, regardless of where they might be located.

On mobile, we added a second navigation panel at the bottom of the screen offering one click links to the three most critical areas of the site: quotes, payments and claims.

Additionally, since insurance is a challenging subject for many persons, we also included an FAQ section that contained definitions for typical insurance terms.
